About My Artistic Practice

Since my time at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, my painting practice has been shaped by several insights I received from Professor Stanisław Wiśniewski, who taught me throughout my studies there. I don’t agree with all of them—some have faded over time as I’ve refined the meaning of my own work—but others still prove useful. One such idea is the concept of the unfinished painting.

The professor taught that a good painting might be one you leave behind while still wanting to continue working on it. In other words, it is not a fully completed piece.

After years of trial and error, I’ve come to believe this suggestion holds true: it should perhaps be clearly visible that the painting remains unfinished by the artist’s choice. It may even be slightly unsettling—though there’s no need for the source of that unease to be easily identifiable.
